1) This morning, I let my dog out as usual. "Don't bark!" I told her. She went outside and for ten seconds, she obeyed my instructions, and then she barked. The cat next door let out a growl. The growling of the cat prompted the elephant that lives behind us to react. My dog came back inside, quiet and thoughtful.
2) I used to play the drums. I also took lessons playing the piano, but my playing didn't sound so great. I made my teacher want to yell.

Searching #75 Google and Beyond
Exercises
1. 3 searches with Blindsearch. I did three searches...one on Order of Discalced Carmelite Seculars, one on kayaking in Houston, and one on wine in Texas. I was surprised that Yahoo did the best job with the Carmelite question. I chose Google for the other two questions, and that is my favorite search engine, but the results were very similar. Because the results were so similar, it probably won't prompt me to change my habits of searching very much. However, it would be fun to try Blindsearch when I get some really detailed reference questions and see what the results are then.
2. Hitwise. Which search engine is number one this week? Google wins by a landslide...71.61% to the second best Yahoo 14.76%. Yes, the results match my favorite search engine.
3. Since I use Google most often, I looked into the extra features for it, in case I am missing something I can use. There are many useful extras. The trick will be remembering to use the shortcuts...because really that is what most of them are....like definitions, weather for a certain place, the local time for a certain place, sports scores, calculator, synonyms, etc. It's all stuff I look for often, but don't use the Google features to find the information. I often use Google to find out how to spell something, and Google Earth is lots of fun. Google books can be useful, too.

Crafts & Hobbies #63 Digital Scrapbooking, p.s.
Note to Myra: I guess the link will have to be cut and pasted.
Crafts & Hobbies #63 Digital Scrapbooking
I really enjoyed this activity. This is something I would like to learn to do. No real problems encountered...just had to take my time and figure it out. Scrapblog is pretty easy to use and the fact that it is free makes it a great find!
Here is hopefully a link that will work for the scrapbook page I created:

Crafts & Hobbies #64: Zines
1) Do I want to put together a Zine? - It was interesting to read about Zines. At this point, I do not have the desire to put one together, but, if I did, it would probably be on Carmelite spirituality. Since I am completely unqualified to start such a Zine, I will leave that to those who are knowledgeable on the topic.
2) What do I think about Zines in the library? - If a library has room and wants them, I don't see why it would be a problem to have Zines.

Potluck #56: To Tweet or Not to Tweet...Twitter
1) I was glad to have a chance to see what Twitter is about. I signed up for Twitter and named myself as a follower of two threads. I can't, at this time, see myself using Twitter but I thought the same thing about Facebook and now I enjoy using it.
I enjoyed reading some of the entries by the celebrities.
I'd like to tweet about the Catholic faith.
2) I looked for Carmelite spirituality and found a little bit and quite a lot on the Catholic faith in general.
3) Twitter seems interesting and has a lot of potential. It feels a bit overwhelming. About 5 or 6 times when I tried to log in, it said "Too Many Tweets...Try Again Later". But I was able to log in a little later.
I guess overall my impression was favorable and I am sure I will check back in with it and learn more how it works and what is available.

Pot Luck #55: Getting the Most Out of Facebook
Well, this was a fun exercise. I was already on Facebook, but I still don't know how to work it well. I learned new things doing this exercise and spent time adding Visual Bookshelf to my profile on Facebook. It probably took longer than it should have! I think there is a way to fill out a 'registration of completion' for this exercise, so I will try to do that.
